Yonge St. Strip was a sex supermarket to city authorities; but the girls who work it said they provide a needed service. “We're like social workers; only we get a little more involved” said a body-rub hostess. They were angry at city's attempts to close down the sex shops. One; who made $500 a week in nude body-rub parlor; said it would just put a lot of girls back on the street corner; and all hell is going to break loose. “Here; we are controlled by the management.” Many working girls became afraid for their safety. There was so much anger in the city that it spilled over into harassing anyone working on Yonge street. Women walked in pairs and never took breaks alone for fear of misdirected anger.
